Helen Rae Fleming Koppenheffer, 79, of Wamego, Kansas, died Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center. She was a life-long resident of the area. Helen was born April 27,1935, in Louisville, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford and Margaret Schumacher Julien. She attended local schools and graduated from Wamego High School. She married Verne “PJ” Fleming in Wamego, on November 14, 1953. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1983. Helen then married Bill Koppenheffer on February 23, 1985, in Manhattan. He also preceded her in death on September 4, 1997. Helen worked many years as a typesetter for Workman Printing in Manhattan. She also worked as a receptionist for The Garage Door Place. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church and a past member of the Red Hat Society. Helen was an avid collector of teddy bears and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She loved working jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and reading. She was a wonderful cook. The time she spent with her friends and family was always dear to her. Helen is survived by her children; Janet Fox (Gene), Largo, Florida, Susan Ross (Les), Branson, Missouri, Larry Fleming (Joyce), St. George, and Joyce Fleming, Manhattan; five grandchildren, Mickey Newman (Kimberly), Misty Vinduska (Andy), Pegi Fox, Windy Fox, and Lindsay Thomas; greatgrandchildren, Tanner, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Caden, Daegen, Devyn, Abbie, Taylor-Marie; sister, Fern Worthing, Wamego; brothers-in-law, Frank Michaelis, Ardmore, Oklahoma, Virlin Fleming (Mary), St. George; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Dean Julien, Ruth Eichman, Norma Yonning, and Delores Michaelis. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. Reverend Leslye Haller will be officiating. Burial will follow in St. George Cemetery. Mrs. Koppenheffer will lie-in-state beginning at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
