About Helen Hardin (Tsa-sah-wee-ah)
Santa Clara artist, the daughter of the artist Pablita Velarde and the mother of the artist Margarete Bagshaw. She described herself as Anglo socially and Indian artistically. Her art was contemporary, but based in Native symbols and motifs.
Over the course of her career she received awards from the Heard Museum, the Scottsdale National Indian Arts Exhibit, the Philbrook Art Center, the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial at Gallup, and the Santa Fe Indian Market.
Her Tewa name means "little standing spruce."
