Biographical Summary
Patrick Hume married "secondly, previous to 24 March 1490, Ellen, daughter of Sir James Shaw of Sauchie, lady of Dirletoun, widow of Archibald Halyburton, Master of Halyburton. She survived him, and was married, thirldy, to Sir Patrick Houston of that Ilk, and fourthly, in 1516, to Sir Robert Hamilton of Fingalton, and was still alive in 1541."

Gordon A. MacGregor posts: "Helen Schaw, m. firstly, to Archibald Haliburton, eldest son and heir of George, 4th Lord Haliburton, and had issue ; and secondly, to Patrick Hume, 1st of Polwarth, (he was widow of Margaret, second daughter and coheiress of Sir John Sinclair) and had issue."
Dave Utzinger posts: "He (Archibald) married Helen, daughter of Sir James SHAW, of Sauchie. He died v.p. (probably very shortly before his father), before 24 March 1489/90, when his widow was 2nd wife of Patrick Home, of Polwarth, who died November 1503, She married, 3rdly, Sir Robert HAMILTON, and was living 1541. [CP 4:384]"
"Archibald, master of Halyburton, eldest son and heir of George, 4th Lord Halyburton, married Helen [Elene] Schaw, daughter of Schaw of Sauchie. He died before his father, leaving a son, James, who succeeded his grandfather as 5th Lord Halyburton. (Douglas's Peerage of Scotland, page 322.) His relict married Sir Patrick Home of Pol wart before 28 April, 1490, and a daughter of theirs, Alison Home, married her cousin, Sir James Shaw of Sauchie. (Douglas's Peerage of Scotland, Vol. II., pp. 176, 177.) [Home was a big man in his day : w T ent on a pilgrimage to Canterbury, 1493, just 100 years after Chaucer. Sir Patrick was Comptroller of Scotland, 1499- 1502. Allison Home's sister was Abbess of North Berwick. At this period the family of Shaw must have been of great importance by reason of their position and alliances, and the offices held.
