About Isabel Shaw
Parents unknown. Not the daughter of James l, King of Scots. Death seen as 10/13/1494 without supporting evidence; she was living in 1483.
Gordon A. MacGregor writes: "JAMES SCHAW OF SAUCHIE, witness to a charter by George, Lord Haliburton, for the lands of Ballindean, in the barony of Baledgarno, to Alexander Guthrie, son and heir of Mr. David Guthrie of that Ilk, on 8 February, 1468.
He was father of
- 1. John Schaw of Alva, who, with his father, had an appointment from the King for the custody of Stirling Castle on 20 January, 1489. He held the office of Sheriff of Clackmannan which he resigned in favour of Sir William Menteith of Kerse who had a charter of confirmation on 25 September, 1489.
- 2. Helen Schaw, m. firstly, to Archibald Haliburton, eldest son and heir of George, 4th Lord Haliburton, and had issue ; and secondly, to Patrick Hume, 1st of Polwarth, (he was widow of Margaret, second daughter and coheiress of Sir John Sinclair,) and had issue."
Succeeded by his grandson, Sir James Schaw of Sauchie, who had a charter from James, Lord Haliburton, for the lands of Auchengownie, in the barony of Forgandenny, on 2 February, 1502. He m. Alison, daughter of Sir Patrick Home of Polwarth, with whom he had a charter under the Great Seal for the lands of Greenock-Schaw on 4 December, 1506, and d. in January of 1528.
