About Hendrick Marselis
One of Melyn's colonists from Amsterdam, Holland, who settled a colony on Staten Island. He may have immigrated with other settlers in New Netherland's Fortune in 1650. When Staten Island was raided by Indians in 1655, he fled with his wife, two children, and a servant to Fort Orange [Albany], in which area he settled permanently.
