Hendrik 'Henk' Fourie (1975 - 2004)

Brief overview:

Henk (29), from Varkenskraal, Groblerdal, was shot in the back, close to the fence on his farm on 18th May 2004. Henk and his wife, Shirley, were attacked after returning from town. As they stopped to open the farm gate, Henk spotted two armed men in the veld (field). The men opened fire on the couple.

Dina Fourie, his sister, said on Friday: "It was murder. The murderers did not even take five cents out of my brother's bakkie. They took nothing."

A box containing dagga was found near the scene of the shooting. No one has been arrested yet in connection with the crime, said Dina.

  • Henk’s murder was the third farm attack in a week. Four men attacked Ernst Jacobus Jordaan (Eddie) (71) while he was selling mielies on his farm. He was shot twice in the chest according to superintendent Andy Pieke, East Rand Police. The attackers fled with Eddie’s mobile phone, R5000 and his firearm. Eddie was rushed to hospital but was declared deceased on arrival.
  • Tertia Momberg (47), who was murdered on a farm in the Tuli block in Botswana 15th May 2004 will be buried on Tuesday 23rd May 2004.
