Hendrik Van Driessel was a shop keeper. The last shop he owned was A1 Cash store, Andries Pretorius st, Bloemfontein. His wife for 50 years, Marita, was his 2IC. A main throughfair to Cape Town, and Johannesburg, as the n1 was not complete in those days. This shop was opposite the then Sentraal Laer Skool, and a block away from Sentraal Hoerskool. He had a general dealer license, The position of his shop ensured continual business, as the school kids bought lunch, sweets, and drinks from him. The shop was in the front of the house, with the lounge entertainment on the left of the shop entrance. He prayed in Dutch at all meals. His daughter Estelle assisted them with sales in the store when it got busy, or when he was at the wholesalers to get replenishments.
