Johanna had always had this caring attitude. As a teenager, according to my aunt, Ouma Joe, as she was known, had already looked after women needs in the Concentration Camps near Bloemfontein as a teenager during the Anglo Boer war. Ouma Joe founded die " Oranje Vroue Vereeniging" in the Free State (O.V.V.) According to the Volksblad newspaper cutting, she died peacefully in her home, 6 David street Bloemfontein. Her husband had died 42 years prior. this enabled her to do the work. In later years, she was involved with the mission and training of evangelists. She at the time of her passing,1 August 1970, Ouma Joe was survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
