Joseph was a businessman in Bloemfontein, emigrated from Amsterdam, Holland. His father was Piet van Driessel, Mother was Sophia Louisa van Driessel ne' Musaar, both from Amsterdam in Holland. This record 'family search Netherlands births and baptisms joseph van Driessel' He died at age 62 and 11 months on the 18 June 1928. Death notice 20722 . He was married to Johanna Maria Schepers, In his death notice mention is made of Regina van Driessel. ? 28/4/1903. ne' Fortmuller.. He had 4 children with Ouma Jo : Hendrikus Josephus van Driessel , then Pieter Joseph van Driessel, then Sophia Louisa van Driessel born 09 February 1908, and Aletta Johanna van Driessel born 21 December 1913, and 1 with Regina Fort Muller: Philip van Driessel. Philip was baptised together with half brother Hendrikus, my oupa, on 8th December 1905 this from the baptism records in the N. G. Church , Bloemfontein. Interesting to note that Joseph's father: Piet van Driessel, and mother, Sophia Louisa van Driessel ne Musaar signed Pieter van Driessel's Baptism on 28 September 1908, as wittnesses....meaning they had travelled to Bloemfontein, from Holland. He owned properties in Bloemfontein viz. 80 Douglas Street, and 8 Gordon street.

Joseph van Driessel died on 18/6/1928 at Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa.
He was buried at the memorium cemetery. (story below)

The archives has no records of the old cemetery, meaning rows, and so on...so I had to walk the walk once more... eventually after many kilometers, I found Oupa Joseph van Driessel, and ouma Jo's grave. Lucky I have a 5 pounder in my vehicle, so I marked the grave, and closest road, and fetched my vehicle and hammer. This was used to break the tree in front of the graves headstone so it became legible. I add a picture for you to see. The old cemetery is not well kept, and the rows do not run in alpha date order. However if you do not have a date at all, you'll walk and walk forever.
