About Henry James Barrett
Was in WW2 in the 101st Airborne Division, Company B, 327th Glider Infantry--Sergeant. Stationed in Tilehurst, England as a paratrooper and glider pilot. In Normandy Invasion his sergeant was killed and he lead men to the front line, receiving 3 stripes for bravery. Killed during Battle of the Bulge along with all 14 of his men--received the Purple Heart. Wife Evelyn had a dream that night about him calling home.
Played basketball and Football. Learned violin from Mr. Chandler, who is buried in Caldwell Cemetery. Liked to make people laugh and play dominoes and pitch. Worked on farm and at Kroger's grocery store in Caldwell. Eloped and told parent later about marriage. Evelyn's parents were Czech and wanted her to marry a Czech.
