About Henry Edwards Hill, Captain
Christening date and parents' names from this source: http://www.wishful-thinking.org.uk/DB41/GLS/Hill03.html.
The following notes are by Margaret Buchanan, manager of this profile:
Recent contact (Oct 2011) with an Australian descendant of Henry Edwards Hill reveals that he had another partner, Elizabeth HERBERT, before the others, by whom he had a son called Edward around 1829. This must be the 'son Edward' mentioned below who died in a hotel fire in December 1884. Story here: http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/6064052. Edward was married with one child and his wife put a notice in the paper about his death.
Information source: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CARMARTHENSHIRE/2003-... - Henry Edwards Hill: I have note of his first marriage to Mary Waters, 2nd daughter of Thomas Waters of Tutshill House, parish of Tidenham, Glos., banker of Chepstow. Date of marriage, at St Mary's Tenby, was 25 AUG 1839. There were seven children of this marriage. This wife, Mary, died on board ship on their way home from Australia in October 1854, when they were about to disembark at London. A year later he married Mary Anna Johns at St Mary Magdalene, St Clears. Before his first marriage Henry Edwards Hill lived in Laugharne at Parsonage Farm with Hannah Thomas, who had three illegitimate sons by him, in 1833, 1835 and 1837, who all took the name of HILL. One, John, died in Laugharne aged 22; the careers of his brothers is not known, but it is thought they may have emigrated to New South Wales. I don't know what became of Hannah Thomas after HEH's marriage.

I am looking for a house which, in a letter written to family in Australia by Henry Hill in 1861, was described as
Belle View Pensarn Carmarthen
This was where HEH and his wife, Mary Anna, lived after their marriage in 1855 at St Clears, while sons of HEH by his previous marriage to Mary Waters were being educated at Carmarthen Grammar School. They later went to live permanently in New South Wales...
I have also sought, unsucessfully so far, the record of the marriage of Henry Edwards Hill, widower, and Mary Anna Johns at St Clears in 1855 (date 7th December). It could have been in a non-conformist church, as Mary Anna's father was the Rev. David Johns, known as 'Missionary Johns of Madagascar'. I believe he was a Congregationalist. His wife had a school in St Clears and Mary Anna was her assistant.
