About Sarah Wienholt

Family records suggested Sarah Hill was born on 3 March 1793, but Geni pointed out this was too close to the birthdate of her older brother in 1792. A new online source [Wishfulthinking.co.uk] provides a christening date for Sarah at Stonehouse on 14 March 1796. Her birthdate, therefore, has been adjusted to 3 March 1796.

The 1851 census [online, viewed through Ancestry] shows Sarah and her husband living in Victoria Street, Laugharne, with their children Augustus (15), who was born in Paignton, Devon, Ellen (19), who was born in Laugharne, and Emma (17), who was born in Weymouth, Dorset. The record states that Sarah is 55 and was born in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

St. James's Chronicle, dated Saturday 17th November, 1860 [online accessed via The British Newspaper Archive] reports: WIENHOLT - On the 13th inst. at The Acacois [sic], Reading, Sarah, relict of John Birkett Wienholt Esq., of Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.

The Acacias, Reading, was probably owned by the Wienholts before it was bought in 1865 by the Palmers (of Huntley & Palmer biscuits). More research needed. The Huntley & Palmer's website states: The house was built in 1818 by a local salt merchant.
