About Henry Thornton Harris

Birth: Jan. 11, 1831 Hardin County Kentucky, USA Death: Feb. 13, 1899 Stanford Lincoln County Kentucky, USA

LINCOLN COUNTY, KENTUCKY MARRIAGES Henry L. Harris married Miss Lucy Jane Craig 22 October 1857 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SEMI-WEEKLY INTERIOR JOURNAL, STANFORD, KY., TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1899 Page 3 HARRIS - After a short illness of pleurisy, Mr. H. T. Harris, died at 10 o'clock last night, aged 68 years, his birthday having been passed January 11. Born in Hardin county, Ky., and liberally educated for the times both in literature and the law, graduating in the latter at Frankfort law school, he came to this county later and no man ever started with brighter prospects. Of good address and a fine orator, he soon became the leading member of the bar and the old residents tell us that there was rarely a case that he was not on one or the other side. He married Miss Jane Craig in 1857 and she with three children, Mrs. C. W. Kremer, Mrs. M. E. Lord and Mrs. Bessie Saunders, survive. Having a fondness for newspaper, he did excellent work for it. About a dozen years ago he moved with his family to Louisville, but the longing for home possessed him and he returned about four years ago. For years his health has been poor and his once bright mind from long suffering had become somewhat clouded, noticably, however, only to those who had known him in his palmiest days. He was entirely conscious up to the moment of his death and spoke of his approaching dissolution as calmly and as fearlessly as he would have talked of other matters. In this office where he spent most of his time, he was loved by all and he will be sadly missed, as he always had something pleasant to say or to joke about. At last life's fitful fever is over and he sleeps his last sleep. May it be sweet and restful. Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock the remains will be taken from the late residence on Main Street and conveyed to Buffalo Cemetery, where after a short service at the grave, they will be consigned to the tomb. (Kentuckiana Digital Library) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following is about his daughter. SEMI-WEEKLY INTERIOR JOURNAL, STANFORD, KY. TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 1885 Page 3 It will surprise not a few of her acquaintances to know that Miss Eliza Harris was married on the 15th to Mr. Charles W. Kremer, Jr., of New Albany, Ind. The ceremony was performed at St. Paul's Rectory by Rev. E. T. Perkins. Mr. Kremer is the son of a prosperous merchant with whom he is engaged in business, and Miss "Lida" is the pretty daughter of Mr. H. T. Harris, a well known lawyer of this place. Mrs. Kremer came up a few days since with her mother from Louisville and was joined here by her husband Sunday. They will remain a few days and then return to their New Albany home. We wish them great happiness.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1899 Page 3 A dispatch to C. W. Kremer at San Francisco, that his father, C. A. Kremer, at New Albany, was very ill, brought a reply from his wife that he was also at the point of death. Considered with the death of Mr. H. T. Harris, the family is a most afflicted one.

THE INTERIOR JOURNAL, STANFORD, KY., TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1907 Page 3 Kremer - Mrs. Charles Kremer, who was Miss Eliza Harris, and who lived here many years ago, is dead of pneumonia in San Francisco. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Harris. Her mother now lives in Louisville but her father is buried in Buffalo cemetery.
