Henry HOLLINGSWORTH [Parents] was born Nov 07, 1658. He married Lydia ATKINSON.

Information copied from: http://ancestrees.com/pedigree/699.htm

Henry witnessed several marriages in County Armagh, Ireland starting at age 20 in 1678. He signed his name Henry Hollingsworth. His grandfather, Henry, signed his name as Hen: Hollensworth. Henry made a couple trips to the American colonies, one in 1683. He made this trip on the "Lyon" as an indentured servant to Robert Turner of Dublin for two years starting Oct. 8, 1685. He apparently traveled back and forth to Ireland as he is a witness to several marriages from Oct. 1685 through 1688. He is during this same time period in the Newark Kennett Monthly Meeting Records in what was then Pennsylvania. He was in them in the 9th mo., 1687 when he declared his intentions to return to Ireland to marry and when he was appointed to check on the order of the Whitely Creek Monthly Meeting. On the 12th mo., 4th day, 1687, Newark decided to grant him a certificate to Ireland to achieve just that. In 1688 he married Lydia Atkinson in Co. Armagh, Ireland. The same month in which he married, he probably assisted with the sale of his father's lands to Rev. Henry Jenney. In Pennsylvania, Henry was known for his surveying skills. He even helped layout the current city of Philadelphia. He also worked as a blacksmith and home builder according to his son Zebulon. Like his father, Valentine, he was a member of the Assembly under Penn's government, but for just one session in 1695. He became a large landowner in Chester Co., PA and New Castle Co., DEL. In 1697, he is likely the Henry Hollingsworth that was a witness in a deed in Chester Co., PA between John Simcock and Henry Swift. (C-2136) He was the coroner for Chester County and Clerk of the Court from 1700-1708. It is thought that he converted back to the Protestant Episcopal Church of this grandfather, while Lydia remained a Quaker. He also was known to be a vegetarian. He moved to the Elk River in what was Cecil Co., (now Elkton), MD in 1711/12 where he was a surveyor for that county. Lord Baltimore appointed him to this position on Mar. 9, 1712. He died between Feb. 23 and March 12, 1721 in Cecil Co., MD. (C-956, 1448)

Lydia ATKINSON married Henry HOLLINGSWORTH.

They had the following children:

		M	i	Stephenson HOLLINGSWORTH was born 1722.

Henry, the second child of Valentine and Ann, also born in Ireland, came to America a year later then his father, He came on the ship, "Lion of Liverpool", working his way as a redemptioner to Robert Turner. He was assigned two hundred acres of Valentine's original grant. After going back to Ireland and marrying Lydia Atkinson, he returned to America and entered a career of public service which extended into three states. He assisted Thomas Holmes in laying out the City of Philadelphia. He was deputy surveyor for Chester County as well as the town of New Castle. While deputy for Chester County, he laid out thirty thousand acres for Penn's children, William and Letitia. This survey included all of the present town of New Garden, and the greater part of Kennet with several thousand acres in the Northern part of New Castle County. He was sheriff in 1695, coroner and clerk of the courts from 1700-1708 of Chester County and represented New Castle County in the Provincial Assembly. He removed to Cecil County, Maryland about 1712, and was appointed surveyor of that county by Lord Baltimore on March 9, 1712. He died in Elkton, Maryland in 1721 at the age of 63. His six children and he became Episcopalians and some later, Presbyterians.

Note: Eldest son of Valentine and Ann (Ree) Hollingsworth. Came to America, August 14, 1683, on the "Lion of London". He was a surveyor, and at the age of 18, assisted Thomas Holmes in laying out the city of Philadelphia. He was a large landowner in Chester Co., PA and in New Castle Co., DE. He represented New Castle Co., as Sheriff and a member of Assembly of Pennsylvania in 1695; as Coroner and Clerk of the Court, 1700-1705. About 1711, he moved to the head of the Elk River, now Elkton, Cecil Co., MD, and was appointed Surveyor of the county by Lord Baltimore, March 9, 1712.]
