Biography provided by Karen
Henry Nelson was one of eight children of Joseph William Nelson and Lydia (Enzley) Ensley. Both his parents died in what is now Ontario, Canada between 1848-1861. Henry's father may have been born in the United States about 1803 and his mother may have been born in Germany. Sources vary about these facts. What is known for certain is that Henry Nelson married Eliza Scarrow (1840-1887) 01 Mar 1860 in Rockwood, Wellington Co., Ontario, Canada.
Henry's wife Eliza was a daughter of James Scarrow and Susanna Radford who had immigrated to Wellington Co. from Freckenham, Suffolk, England in the early 1840s along with several of their adult children's families.
Henry and Eliza are believed to have moved from Wellington Co., Ontario, Canada to St. Vincent, Minnesota (where Eliza reportedly died 8 Aug 1887) sometime between the birth of their tenth child Frances (later Gawley) born in 1878 in Clinton, Ontario, Canada and their eleventh child Eliza Jane "Jennie" (later Phelps) born in 1881 in St. Vincent, Minnesota. Their last child Grace Fisher Nelson (later Jones) arrived in Pembina, North Dakota in 1883.
