Biographical Summary

"Henry Oglivie, born 1697, son of Thomas O., min. of Coupar-Angus, and younger brother of Thomas O. of Ruthven and Coul ; educated at Univ. of St Andrews ; licen. by Presb. of Duns 5th July 1726 ; called Jan., and ord. 23rd April 1727 ; died 23rd May 1781. He was remarkable for the familiarity and eccentricity of his pulpit illustrations. He marr. 15th Nov. 1749, Margaret, whom he had baptised (died 12th July 1803), daugh. of Alexander Wyse of Lunan and Margaret Nairn, and had issue — Elizabeth, born 15th Aug. 1750; Robert, born 11th Feb. 1752; Thomas, born 23rd March 1754; Henry, lieut. R.N., born 18th Aug. 1756; James, born 15th Jan. 1759 ; John, born 28th Nov. 1760 ; Margaret, born 31st July 1762 ; Catherine, born 24th May 1764; Isobel, bapt. 3rd May 1766 (marr. James Scott, min. of Benholme)."
