Brother Henry Schmidt, born November 15, 1888, at Neu Danzig, Russia, died at 9;00 a.m. on Sunday morning, October 29, 1944, in the hospital at Empress, Alberta. At the age 13 he came to Herreid, South Dakota, with his parents where he grew up to be a young man. In 1912, he immigrated to Canada in Alberta close to Burstall, Saskatchewan, on a homestead, and continued to live there until his life ended. March 23, 1913, he married Helena Deibert who was a faithful partner to him. God blessed this happy marriage with eight children, seven daughters and one son. Brother Schmidt was converted December 1993 through the ministry of Reverend John Weinbender, who also baptized him. He joined the church at Gnadenfeld. He became ill a year ago gradually becoming sicker and had to spend his last months in hospital where he died of heart and kidney complications. He died peacefully in his sleep and joined his Savior. Those remaining to mourn his home-going are his loving wife; his eight children; four grandchildren; two brothers; and many other relatives and friends. May the Lord comfort those who mourn.
