  • EDMUND SCOTT born probably in Rattlesden, Suffolk, Eng., about 1530, buried there, 14 Aug. 1621, aged "about ninety-seven years." He married, probably about 1560, JOAN ___ , who was buried 15 May 1615, "an old woman".
  • Edmund Scott appears in the records of Rattlesden in 1569 as a "Questman", a parish officer. This is the first mention found of him, although the records begin in 1558, and as the baptisms of his two eldest children are not of record, he possibly came to Rattlesden about 1556 from some other parish. In 1588-89, he was a church warden and in 1593, he was a collector. In 1611, Edmund Scott, "Sr." served again as collector. His age at death was probably exaggerated.
  • Children, all but two baptised in Rattlesden:

  • HENRY SCOTT (Edmund), born probably in Rattlesden, Suffolk, about 1565, was buried there, 24 Dec. 1624. He married in Rattlesden, 25 July 1594, MARTHA WHATLOCK, baptised there, 18 July 1658, died before 1653, daughter of Thomas and Joan (___) Whatlock.
  • Henry Scott grew up in Rattlesden, a yeoman farmer. After his death, his family continued to reside there until 1634 when they emigrated to America. His widow, Martha, aged about sixty (really fifty-six), his son Thomas and his family, his daughter, Ursula (Scott) Kimball with her husband, Richard Kimball, their children, and Kimball's brother, Henry Kimball, and his family, sailed in the Elizabeth of Ipswich, 30 Apr. 1634. This shipping list, given by both Drake and Hotten, is divided into two parts, those who took the oath of allegiance and those who did not, the latter being children under age.

  • It is evident that Thomas Scott, the eldest son, had received his share of his father's property, either through gift at age of twenty-one or through certain property being entailed to him and hence not mentioned in his father's will.

  • THIS INFORMATION SEEMS TO BE INCORRECT AS IT LISTS HENRY AS THE SON OF SIR WILLIAM SCOTT INSTEAD OF EDMUND SCOTT

http://minerdescent.com/2011/10/04/henry-scott/

He was a Questman in 1601, 1619. Surveyor 1609. Overseer of the poor, 1613. Constable 1616-1618

Henry Scott, of Scot's Hall, Rattlesden (d. 1624), was the son of Sir William Scott and Mary Howard, daughter of Charles Howard (1536-1624), Lord High Admiral of England. Sir William was the son of Sir Thomas Scott of Scot's Hall (d. 1621) and Elizabeth Baker, daughter of John Baker of Sesinghurst. Thomas was the son of Sir Reginald Scott (1538-1599) and his first wife Emeline Kempe (some compilers erroneously associate Thomas with his father's second wife, Mary Tuke). http://www.minrec.org/wilson/pdfs/18.%20%20Royals.pdf

Biography and notes from WikiTree: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Scott-245

Henry [1] was baptized on 1 Nov. 1560 in St. George, South Bradfield, Suffolk England. He moved to Rattlesden with his parents when he was about six.

He married Martha Whatlock [2] on 25 Jul 1594 in Rattlesden, Suffolk, England. They had three children including Thomas, their eldest.

He was buried 24 December 1624 at Rattlesden, Suffolk, England.

The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, volume 52:248 (Apr 1898) contains an abstract of the will of Henry Scott in which are mentioned his wife Martha, sons Thomas and Roger, and grandchildren Abigail, Henry, Elizabeth and Richard Kimball. This source also establishes wife Martha as sister of Robert Whatlock. This abstract was reprinted in Water's Genealogical Gleanings of England, volume II [1907].

The will of Henry Scott of Rattlesden, yeoman, was made September 24, 1623, and proved January 10, 1624. To his wife Martha he left the house in which he dwelt for the term of her life, after which it was to go to his son Roger and his heirs forever. To his grandchild Abigail Kemball, 40s. at the age of twenty-one. To his grandchildren Henry, Elizabeth and Richard Kemball, 20 s. each at the age of twenty-one. To Thomas Skott, £5 within one year of his decease. To Mr. Peter Devereux, minister of Rattlesden, 10s. Executrix: wife Martha [3]

Ten years after her husband’s death Martha Scott set sail for America with her son Thomas Scott and her daughter Ursula Kemball and ten grandchildren of all ages from a boy of eighteen to a baby of one. This family group embarked on the Elizabeth of Ipswich the last of April in 1634, the adults taking the Oath of Allegiance at the Ipswich Customs House before sailing. Martha Scott’s age is given on the list as sixty although she was actually aged sixty-six. The Scotts and Kemballs settled in Ipswich after a short stay in the Boston neighborhood, and there, presumably, Martha Scott died, there being no record.

Massachusetts Pioneers: Thomas Scott, ae. 40, with wife Elizabeth, ae. 40, and ch. Thomas, ae. 11, and Elizabeth, ae. 9, came in the Elizabeth of Ipswich April 30, 1635. Martha Scott, ae. 60, came In the same ship. He settled at Cambridge; propr. 1633, frm. March 4, 1634-5. Rem. to Ipswich; propr. 1635; town officer, 1653. He was a son of Henry Skott of Rattlesden, Suffolk, yeoman, an his wife Martha; the father d. in 1624, and the widow came as above; her dau. Ursula, wife of Richard Kembold or Kimball, came in the same ship. Reg. Lii, 248.
