Notes for Edmund Scott
“I have no positive ‘proof’ that Edmund I was the father of Henry, but since George was buried in the churchyard of Bradfield St. George on 30 Aug. 1562, and since he mentions his son Edmund I in his Will, and since Edmund’s son Henry was bapt in Bradfield st. george, I have concluded that Edmund was the father of Henry.”1653

“Edmund Scott appears in the parish records of Rattlesden, co. Suffolk, for the first time in 1567, when he brought a child to baptism. He was a ‘questman,’ a parish officer, in 1569. As the baptisms of his two eldest children are not in the register, which begins in 1558, he probably came to Rattlesden from another parish. He was church warden in 1588-1589, and collector in 1593 and 1611. [See The Pillsbury Ancestry, Mary Lovering Holman, 1938, I: 81.] Joan Scott, his wife, whome he may have married about 1560, was buried in Rattlesden May 15, 1615, ‘an old woman.’ He was buried in Rattlesden August 14, 1621, aged ‘about ninety-seven years,’ possibly an exaggeration.” 1296

“Edmund Scott born probably in Rattlesden, Suffolk, Eng., about 1530, buried there 14 Aug. 1621, aged ‘about ninety-seven years.’ He married, probably about 1560, Joan ____, who was buried 15 May 1615, ‘an old woman.’ Edmund Scott appears in the records of Rattlesden in 1569 as a ‘Questman’, a parish officer. This is the first mention found of him, although the records begin in 1558, and as the baptisms of his two eldest children are not of record, he possibly came to Rattlesden about 1556 from some other parish. In 1588-89, he was a church warden and in 1593, he was a collector. In 1611, Edmund Scott, ‘Sr.’ served again as collector. His age at death was probably exaggerated. ” 1026

“Edmund Scott (George) was born probably about 1525-1530 in Bradfield Saint george, suffolk, and was the son of George Skott who died in 1547. Edmund’s wife was named Joan. She was buried 15 May 1615 at Rattlesden, ‘an old woman’. He was buried there 14 August 1621, aged ‘about ninety-seven years’. His age was probably exaggerated as was so often the case. Edmund Scot and his wife apparently moved from Bradfield to Rattlesden about 1566, for their children born after that date were baptized there. He appears in the records of Rattlesden in 1569 as a Questman, which is a parish officer. From 158 from 1589, he was a church warden and in 1593 he was a collector. In 1611 Edmund Scott, Sr. again served as a collector.” 213

Married Joan, who died 15 May 1615, Rattlesden, Suffolk. Edmund Scott appears in the records of Rattlesden in 1569 as a "Questman," a parish officer. He probably came to Rattlesden from some other parish (Mary Lovering Holman, Ancestry of Charles Pillsbury and John Pillsbury, two volumes (Concord, New Hampshire: The Rumford Press, 1938), 1:81).
He appears in the parish records of Rattlesden for the first time in 1567 when he brought his daughter Dinay to baptism. The Rattlesden register begins in 1558. The absence of the baptisms of Dinay's older siblings seems to indicate he came to Rattlesden from another parish. He was church warden in 1588-1589 and collector in 1593 and 1611. He was buried at age "about ninety-seven years" which is possibly an exaggeration (Walter Goodwin Davis, The Ancestry of Phoebe Tilton, 1775-1847
(Portland, Maine: The Anthoensen Press, 1947), p. 117).
