Henry Settle

Note: In his will, Henry requested that he be buried in the Churchyard at Barwick. In the will, he mentions his wife first as Helline and second as Elling. Her maiden name is unknown. He also mentioned his sons John, Francis and Richard and a daughter Marie, nephew Willm Steele son of Lawrence Settle, a brother Willm, John Tailor, John Tiliour, Richard Potter and Leonard Bridges. He expressed the desire that his wife and Isabell, his sister-in-law shall endeavor themselves to take and renew the Lease of the farm to the use of John Settle, my sonne, and Henrie Settle, the son of my brother Robert. Named as witnesses were John Taite, John Tailior, Leonard Bridges, Willm Dickson and Richard Potter.

He married HELLINE ELLING Abt. 1565 in Potterdon, Barwick-in-Elmet Parish, Yorkshire, England. She was born Bet. 1530 - 1555, and died Bet. 1578 - 1642.

It is believed that Willm died unmarried since in the will of his brother Henry it was provided 'my said brother Willm whall have Chamber Rowme for his loudginge'. In the will of his brother Robert, it was provided 'To my brother Willm Settle, one Read Quy'. And in the will of his brother-in-law Thomas Potter dated 15 august 1584, probated 14 November 1584, it was provided, 'I give unto Willm Settle, my wyffe brother, thre shillinges foure pence'.
