HENRY WOOD & JOHN WOOD Doris Brook Wood wrote in 1968 to BRENDA SOUTER;" Our ancestors came from Lancashire, where they had much property; in 1778 Henry & Thomas, sons of JOHN WOOD & ANN CRONKSHAW went to Manchester and then to London, finally settling in the village of Lewisham in 1810 (some village now!) Grandfather HENRY (1796-1894) was a handsome looking old man from his photos; but Great Uncle JOHN Wood (1793-1890) is very different looking, I don' t know what the rest looked like . Grandfather Henry Wood had warehouses in Watling Street, London, and on death, birth and marriage certificates he is called by various names for his profession, carpet factor, carpet warehouse man, woollen manufactor, gent, & gentleman." HENRY Wood was baptised at Allhallows church in Bread Street, London ,but in the 1861 census Henry (64) gives St George's Surrey as his place of christening .Henry & Ann were married at St Mary's Lewisham's parish church.
