• Gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 17th Lancers.
• Gained the rank of Major between 1887 and 1890 in the service of the Berkshire Yeomanry India.
• Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County London.
• Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County London.
• Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for St. Pancras between 1896 and 1906.
• Decorated with the award of the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)
• Mayor of Westminster between 1902 and 1903.
• Honorary Colonel between 1905 and 1923 in the service of the 1st Battalion, City of London Regiment Royal Fusiliers.1
• Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for St. Pancras between 1910 and 1918.

• Fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.

• Created 1st Baronet Jessel, of Westimnster, co. London [U.K.] on 30 June 1917.
• Invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.
• Colonel Deputy-Dirwctor of Remounts, War Office between 1918 and 1919.
• Invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1919.
• Retired from the military in 1919, with the rank of Colonel.
• Controller Horse and Animals (unpaid), Ministry of Munitions Disposals Board between 1919 and 1920.
