Biography==Herman Atwood immigrated to New England in 1641 as an employee of Thomas Buttolph. He was from Sanderstead, Surrey.<ref name=Thwing>Thwing Collection</ref> Samuel Worthen stated that he was a son of Deacon Johnand Mary L. (Smith) Atwood; he did not describe his basis for this information.<ref name=Worthen341>Worthen, "Descendants of William Copp of Copp's Hill," page 341.</ref>
He was admitted to the Church in Boston on 24 February 1644, and that same year was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company.<ref name=Thwing>Thwing Collection</ref><ref name=Worthen341>Worthen, "Descendants of William Copp of Copp's Hill," page 341.</ref> He was married to Ann Copp in Boston, Massachusetts, on 11 August 1646.<ref>A Report of the Record Commissioners of the City of Boston Containing Boston Births, Baptisms, Marriages, and Deaths, 1630-1699, Rockwell and Churchill, City Printers, Boston, Massachusetts, 1883. page 24: Herman Atwood & Ann Copp married 11th -- 6th month. </ref> Two children were born to their marriage: John and Sarah Atwood. <ref name=Thwing>Thwing Collection</ref><ref>Atwood and Woodgate, page 23.</ref> Hermon Atwood died in Boston before 13 October 1651, when inventory ofhis estate was taken and valued at 34 pounds, 3 shillings.
