Hermine Gunz (Schwager): Hermine was born 27-Jun-1898 in Cham Germany to Isidor and Karla Schwager. She received public school and religious instruction in Cham. She worked in the family business in Cham and, following WW I she to Munich with her parents. On 24-Jun-1926, in Munich, Hermine married Max Friedrich Gunz from Fischach, Bavaria near Augsburg (born 18-Oct-1891). Max was also in the business of sweater and knit goods. Mina and Max Gunz had one child, Eva, born 3-Dec-1929 in Munich. In Jul-1940 they were provided affidavits to emigrate to US (by Erwin Schwager the son of Leopold Schwager) but their emigration numbers were too high so the Gunz family was deported from Munich to the east on 15-Nov-1941 and were brought to the 9th fortress in Kovna (Kaunas) in Lithuania where they were murdered on 30-Nov-1941 together with other members of the Schwager family. During the German occupation period some 50,000 people (mainly Jews) were murdered in this fortress. The bodies were buried nearby. In the autumn 1943, before the arrival of the Russian troops, the Germans initiated operation 1005 to erase all evidence to the crimes so Jews prisoners were instructed to dig the graves and burned the bodies. Hermine was called Mina Hanna Schwager visited the family in Munich in 1937 and suggested to take Eva back with her to Palestine but her parents wanted her to stay with the family.
