The Howell family originally settled on Long Island in the early 1600’s. Hezekiah was born in Southampton, LI., and later moved north to Orange County, NY in 1737. He farmed there and he, his father, and son together owned 750 acres of land.

Howell was born in 1709 and by the time of the Revolution he was in his 60’s and did not serve in a military capacity. He was, however, a member of the Committee on Safety and Observation in Cornwall, Orange County, NY. He died in 1815 in Blooming Grove, Orange County and is buried in the Washingtonville Cemetery. The SAR also recognizes his son Hezekiah. [2-3]
