Hilkka K. Ehn, age 89 years of Kakabeka Falls, ON, passed away peacefully with family by her side, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Hospice Unit, on Wednesday, January 12th, 2011. Born in Finland, Hilkka came to Port Arthur with her parents as a young child. Later she moved to Devon Township where she met her future husband, Emil. They were married November 6, 1937 in Devon where they raised their three children, and lived there until moving to the Seniors Apartments in Kakabeka Falls in 1988. She always cherished time spent with her family and friends. Hilkka will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sons: Eric (Helmi), Dennis (Elsie); grandchildren: Jim (Susan), Bob, John (Kim), Terry, Wendy (Corey), Kathy (Ali), Lorraine (Lorne), Patsy, Dan (Stacey); great grandchildren: Andrew, John, Nathan, Timmy, Justin and Kai; brother Harold Pekkala (Doris); sister Eila Loisel; sister-in-law Linne Pekkala; niece Jean (Peter); and nephew Lloyd (Danuta). Hilkka was predeceased by husband Emil; daughter Irene and son-in-law Heikki; parents Matti and Signe Pekkala; brother Matti; and nephew David. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17th, 2011 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Pastor Matthew Diegel of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the Service. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Hilkka's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, designated to the Northern Cancer Fund.
