Family Source: Newspaper article on FRERICHS Excerpt: The Frerichs roots came from Ostfriesland, Germany. Seven brothers and one sister came to the United States when they were young adults in about 1868.

Voike and Harm went to near Scottsbluff, NE, and Cheyenne, Whoming. Staufa and John stayed in Golden, Illinois, where it is believed they all first settled. John was a giant of a man in stature. A sister died a short time after she came to Golden from Germany. After several years at Golden, IL, William Lammbert J. and Henry came out here (nebraska). William settled on a farm near Firth, NE. He married Folka Duhme. To this union three daughters and one son were born: Mamie, Katie, Grace and William J. William J. still lives on a farm near Firth. A daughter, Mrs. John (Mamie) Overbeck lived in Beatrice until her death in 1980. William lived to be nearly one hundred two years old. Lammert W. Frerichs married Maria Rankin also from Germany. To this union nine children were born: Pope, Lammert J., Gerhardt, John L. William, Maria, Lenna, Alice and Annie.

Henry farmed and owned and operated the Livery Barn in Beatrice, NE at 7th and Market Streets (which later became Morehead Chevrolet). In the horse and buggy days many people left their horses at the livery barn to be watered and fed while they shopped in Beatrice. The Barn was all torn down except the west wall in about 1935 when Don Linn started his Chevrolet dealership there.

Henry, after coming from Germany with almost nothing, had bought and paid for over five hundred acres of land by the time he was fifty years old. On a return trip to Germany for a visit, he went to France and bought a stallion horse which he brought back with him. It became a famous race horse around here. The race horse’s name was Midford Vinson. He also had stud horses and a Jack for breeding purposes to produce work horses for others. He married Tekje Margaret Henrichs. To this union were born ten children: Bill, Lizza and Maria who lived in western Nebraska. Kate near Cortland. Martin, Henry JR., Grace, Harm, Lambert and Ben of near Beatrice. After Henry’s first wife’s death, he married Frauke Agena. He spent the last remaining years of his life in a wheel chair not able to walk.

Henry died in 1934 at the age of eighty-six. His wife Frauke died in 1936. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church near Pickrell at one time and were buried in the Church Cemetery. Of the ten children, only Ben remains. Lambert died March 25, 1979. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry (Margaretha) Frerichs still lives in rural Filley. Lambert lived in Rockford. Ben lives on the old Frerichs farm homestead where most of the children were born. In February 1983 the farm will have been in the Frerich family for one hundred years. It has one of the few windmills left in the community and is still in operation, pumping water into one of the few cisterns left in the community still in operation. The farm is located nine and one-half miles east and north of Beatrice in Logan township. (Written by Harm Frerichs from information gathered from Mrs. Henry (Margaretha) Frerichs and Ben Frerichs.)
