Hisham I (Abu al-Walid Hisham) al-Rida ibn Abdul Rahman emir de Córdoba

Hisham I or Hisham Al-Reda (Arabic: هشام بن عبد الرحمن الداخل‎) was the second Umayyad Emir of Cordoba, ruling from 788 to 796 in the Al-Andalus (Moorish Iberia).

Hisham was born in Cordoba. He was the 1st son of Abd ar-Rahman I and his wife, Halul and the younger half brother of Suleiman. He built many mosques and completed the Mezquita. In 792 he called for a jihad. Muslims arrived from abroad. The campaign took place in 793 against the Kingdom of Asturias and the County of Toulouse; in this second campaign he was defeated at Orange by William of Gellone, the Frankish count of Toulouse and first cousin to Charles the Great. Hisham died in 796 C.E. after rule of eight years. He was only forty years old at the time of his death. He was a prototype of Umar II, and strove to establish the islamic way of life. He lived a simple life and avoided regal show and ostentation. He was a God-fearing man and was known for his impartial justice and sound administration.

Hishâm I ibn 'Abd al-Rahmân, amir al-Qurtubi was named in full: Hisham bin Abdul-Rahman Al-Dakhil.2 He was born in 756.2 He was the son of 'Abd al-Rahmân I al-Dâkhil ibn Mu'âwiya, amir al-Qurtubi and Khazraf (?).1,2 Hishâm I ibn 'Abd al-Rahmân, amir al-Qurtubi succeeded his father to the emirate in 788. He undertook summer campaigns against the kingdom of Asturias after 788.3 He was a witness where Bermudo Iº Fruelez "el Diácono", rey de Asturias contended with summer campaigns against his kingdom by Hishâm I of Córdoba between 788 and 791.3 Emir of Córdoba at Al-Andalus, Spain, between 788 and 796.2,4,3 Hishâm I ibn 'Abd al-Rahmân, amir al-Qurtubi built several mosques and finished the building of the Mosque of Cordoba.2 He died in 796 at age 40 years.1,2 He died in 799 at age 43 years.4

HISHAM (Córdoba 757-17 Apr 796). Ibn-el Kouthya records that "la fille de Youçouf" offered "une jeune esclave…Houlal" to Abd er-Rahman, adding that she became the mother of Hisham[55]. Abd el-Wahid Merrakechi records "…Hicham b. Mohammed b. Abd er-Rahman ed-Dakhil b. Moawiyya…" when reciting the ancestry of his remote descendant "El-Motadd billah" Emir of Córdoba[56]. Ibn-el Kouthya names "Soleiman et Hicham" as the two sons of Abd er-Rahman[57]. Appointed Governor of Merida by his father. He arrived at Córdoba within days of his father's death, and was greeted as HISHAM I Emir of Córdoba. According to Arab sources, Emir Hisham was "passionate about the holy war", sending two armies into battle in 791[58]. The first phase of the mosque at Córdoba was completed during the early part of his reign. He foiled a plot to depose him in favour of his cousin Muhammad al-Qasim in 805, which he repressed with great severity. An uprising in Córdoba in 818 was also put down with extreme severity. The Chronicon Albeldense records that “Eiscam” reigned seven years and six months in Córdoba, adding in a later paragraph that he was the son of “Abderrhaman”[59]. [m] (a) ZOKHRUF, daughter of ---.
