About Hosanna Brown


Biography

Hosanna Brown, son of Daniel Brown and Alice Herendeen/Hearnden Brown, was born in 1683 and died on 4 February 1769. He is buried in the Brown Lot, Glocester, Providence County, Rhode Island.

He married, first, about 1705, Mary Hawkins. She was the daughter of John Hawkins and Sarah ____ Hawkins of Providence,RI.

He married, second, by 1735, Ammitai ____. She was living in North Providence,RI as late as 1771 at the home of her son Daniel Brown.

Children(by first marriage): Othniel Brown, Mary Brown Burlingame, and Sarah Brown Brown.

Children(by second marriage): Daniel Brown, Nedebiah Brown, Hosanna Brown Jr, and Hallelujah Brown King.

Mary Hawkins, the daughter of John and Sarah Hawkins, married Hosannah Brown ca. 1705. The couple are mentioned in John Hawkins' distribution of land: "Jun. 5, 1714 deeded 52 acres for love, etc., to son-in-law Hosannah Brown and Mary his wife. " (Austin, p. 316.)

Joshua Eddy was born on February 21, 1680 at Swansea, Massachusetts. Joshua learned the cooper's trade. Just before his marriage he received from his father a large tract of land at Mattapoisett. On May 3, 1708 at Swansea, Joshua married Hannah Stevens, whose ancestry is unknown. …

In 1739 he [Joshua Eddy] added two more acres on the west. This land was in Glocester and purchased from Hosanna Brown, "land now adjoining the westward part of the dwelling place of me and adjacent to the southward part of the dwelling place of Hosanna Brown,...a small brook runs through my homestead place."
