About Howard Hershberger
Howard Hershberger, 83, of Berlin died Saturday, June 4, 2005, in Walnut Hills Nursing Home.
He was born July 22, 1921, in Holmes County the son of the late Homer and Leora Hochstetler Hershberger. He retired from farming after 22 years and was retired from Owens-Brockway.
He was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church and the church?s mixed quartet. He was involved in music ministry at the church and home Sunday School. He was a volunteer for Save and Serve at Millersburg and Global Crafts at Walnut Creek. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed baseball, especially the Cleveland Indians.
Surviving are Norma Sommers Hershberger, whom he married Dec. 16, 1944; thee daughters, Cheryl (Verton) Yoder of Wooster, Marsha (Keith) Snyder of Berlin, Bonnie (Jim) Mellor of Dover; daughter-in-law, Victoria Hershberger of Texas; one brother, Merlin Hershberger of Walnut Creek; one sister, Irene Hershberger of Walnut Creek; eight grandchildren, Renae Hershberger, Vincent (Michele) Yoder, Chantel (Matt) Meshew, Chadia Yoder, Charlena Yoder, Kerrie (Brad) Gallion, Kristi Snyder and Troy Dayton; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jared and Karlie. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Hershberger.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at 1 p.m. in Walnut Creek Mennonite Church with Pastors Ross Miller and Beau Hummel officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the church cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday from 6 to 8 in Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. Arrangements are being handled by Butler-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek. Memorials may be made to Holmes County Hospice or the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church.
