About Hugh Alexander
A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA with the rank of PRIVATE. DAR Ancestor # A001164
Hugh was most likely the youngest child of Hugh and Martha, born August 6, 1765. His father died when hugh was twelve years old and prabably remained at the homestead being cared for by siblings. Hugh married Jemina Patterson February 15, 1787, at the Centre Presbyterian Church. the couple then moved to the Tuscarora Valley in Juniata County. Hugh became an active member of the Tuscarora Presbyterian Church and wa sone of the founders of the Tuscarora Academy. The academy had its beginnings with a Latin class taught in a room of Hugh's house. Eventually a primitive building was erected to house the academy. Hugh's wife Jemima was born in Sherman's Valley in 1765. Hugh died in 1835 and Jemima in 1843. Most of their children lived in the Perryville area of Juniata County.
