He succeeded to his family's estate after his brother John's son, Thomas, died in infancy.[1]

In 1553, Hugh paid a fine of four marks for not attending at the coronation of Philip and Mary to receive the honor of knighthood. On 18 Jan 1555, Hugh paid a fine in order to get out of attending Philip of Spain's coronation.[2]

Buried at St. Michael Penkivel, where a brass bears the inscription: "Hugh Boscawen, of Tregothnan, Esqr., aged 80. Died 24th Aug. Anno 1559."[3]

Soon after this marriage he became involved in a bitter dispute with his stepson John Boscawen and the young man’s guardian John Carminowe over some livestock. .... etc.
