About Hugh Campbell, 3rd Earl of Loudoun
He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Campbell of Loudoun [S., 1601] in 1684. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Tarrinzean and Mauchline [S., 1633] in 1684. He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Loudoun [S., 1633] in 1684. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1697. He held the office of Extraordinary Lord of Session between 1699 and 1731. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1703. He held the office of Commissioner of Treasury [Scotand] between 1703 and 1705. He held the office of Joint Secretary of State [Scotland] between 1705 and 1707. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1706. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1707. He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1707 and 1731. On 7 February 1707 he resigned and got his titles regranted with remainders to the heirs general of the body of the 1st Earl but of his nomination, in default of which to the heirs male whatsoever of the 1st Earl. He held the office of Lord Keeper [Scotland] between 1708 and 1713. He fought in the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715, against the Jacobites.
