Sir James Campbell was the son of James Campbell, 2nd Earl of Loudoun and Lady Margaret Montgomerie. He married Lady Jane Boyle, daughter of David Boyle, 1st Earl of Glasgow and Jean Mure, on 29 March 1720.1 He died on 30 April 1745, killed.
Sir James Campbell lived at Lawers, Perthshire, Scotland. He fought in the Battle of Fontenoy on 30 April 1745.2
