Hyman (Hymie) Burkeman

<p>born as Bergman. Ellis Island records state: Hyman Burkeman, age 16, 5' 8", fair skin, dark hair and eyes, arriving aboard the St Paul from Liverpool January 9, 1917. A cutter, Hebrew, English, residence London, parents Mr/Mrs Burkeman 32 Whites Road London E. He was going to his uncle J. Goldberg in Brooklyn. There is a line drawn through Hyman's record, so not clear if he was actually admitted. He may well have not been admitted or stayed long - because he & his brother set up a very successful tailoring business.</p><p>In Dec 1928, he had a tailor's business at no. 7 Fordham Street E.</p>He died in a car accident in Germnany in 1936 where he had gone to try and bring relatives out.
