Icek Wildman

One of the earliest Jewish settlers in the town of Grojec, Isaac Wildman was a succesful tavern owner and businessman at a time when the liqour trade was technically off limits to Jews in Grojec. Isaac ultimately purchased several estates in the Grojec area including that of the family of Polish cleric Piotr Skarga (see below). Isaac was known by the nickname "Lippia" although to what that refers has since been lost - most likely, though, it is that his full name was Isaac Lipman Wildman.

The first paragraph beginning on Page 149 along with Footnote 137 is as follows:

“On the main highway from Radom to Warsaw, about five and a half miles from the Polish capital, lies the pretty Masovian town of Grojec, which cannot but leave an impression on every enlightened compatriot, once he discovers that it is the family home of our great orator Piotr Skarga. By the side, on the right, is found a village with a manor house, farm buildings and, visible from a distance, a windmill. This is Skargowszcyzna, that to this day bears the name of his old noble family of the Radwan clan.

According to information I obtained locally, Skargowszczyzna is nowadays also called Jeneralskie. Twenty years ago it was owned by a Polish colonel Placzynski, and from him it was bought by the Jew Icek Wildman. Despite my best efforts I could not find any more details about Skarga, and the town records have no information about him or his family, about which there is no longer any trace in the whole of Masovia.”
