Two independent sources confirm that Ida Mae Smith (Patterson) was married to a McKay prior to her marriage to George Smith. A third source indicates that she died a Bowman. The children shown below are legitimate, not the product of a geni.com merge gone wrong.

LaVon Cheryl Patterson Campbell entered the children with the surname McKay. She also entered the marriage to George Smith. The obituary of Samuel Patterson Jr. identifies her as a McKay at the time of Samuel's death.

She died a Bowman, and is identified as such at an Indiana gravesite which gives the same DOB that LaVon had. The gravesite also gives her DOD, which LaVon didn't know.
