About Ila Mae Simmons

ROSEVILLE - Ila Mae Simmons, 92, Roseville, left her earthly home on Thursday, April 19, 2013, 7:08 a.m. at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth.

She was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Berwick, the daughter of Guy and Mamie (Keister) Simmons. She graduated from Roseville Township High School in 1939.

She is survived by one sister, Kathryn Jensen of Galesburg; and one sister-in-law, Patricia Simmons of Missoula, Mont. She never married but had a soft spot in her heart for her nieces and nephews, and received endless amounts of love from them all. They include Karen Ferguson, Elizabeth (John) Simmons-O'Neill, Susan (Bill) Dehority, Ken (Cindy) Johnson, Greg (Connie) Jensen, Ron Jensen, JK (Michelle) Simmons, and David (Marilyn) Simmons. She is also survived by seven great-nieces, five great-nephews, one great-great-niece with another one on the way, three great-great-nephews, and two dear friends, Doris Cowell and Carol Carlberg. The family is grateful to great-niece, Suzanne Ferguson (Dave Williams), who resided with and kept a special eye out for Ila the past year and a half.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Ruth Johnson; a brother, Donald Simmons; two brothers-in-law, Del Johnson and Raymond Jensen; one niece, Cynthia Jensen; one nephew-in-law, Jim Ferguson; and one great-great-nephew, Erick Adcock.

Ila worked at Gale Products in Galesburg and retired in 1975 after more than 30 years of service. During her tenure at Gales, she was sent to Canada to train others in her field. Her hobbies included jigsaw puzzles, plastic canvas projects, and being a caregiver to her family and friends. She never let an occasion pass without taking a plate of homemade cookies. She was a member of Roseville Baptist Church, and in her early years enjoyed bowling with the Gale Products Bowling League. "Aunt Ila" will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Funeral was Monday, April 22, 2013, at Corman Memorial Home in Roseville, with Pastor Dwight Taflinger officiating. Memorials may be made to the Roseville Baptist Church and or the Roseville Area Ambulance Service. Please sign the online guestbook at www.cormanmh.com.
