Increase Robinson was of Taunton, Massachusetts. He was the son of Increase and Sarah (Penniman) Robinson of Dorchester who, in or before 1668, removed to Taunton, where the son married Mehitable Williams, had a large family, and died in 1738. The offence which brought him before the Court, April 25, 1720 was that on the February 5, 1719-20, at Dorchester, he ?"did maliciously from his own Imagination pronounce & publish certain scandelous & contemptuous words of the Honorable Colonel Penn Townsend of this [Suffolk] County Esq. Chief Judge of the Comon pleas" for which he was ordered to ?"pay a fine of Six pounds to the King or be whipped ten stripes at the Publick whipping post & Recognize to his Majesty himself in the sum of 50' & two sureties in the sum of 25' pounds each until the next Court of General sessions to be holden in July next, & pay costs of prosecution standing committed," etc. (Records of the Court of General Sessions of the Peace, folio 37).

Mary Williams, dau. of Thomas Williams, who was a son of Richard of Taunton.
