Increase Sumner was a South Carolina colonist.

Increase was born on 23 February 1642[1]. He was the son of William Sumner and Mary Swift.

He married Sarah Staples in 1667 - they had 11 children.

He was Freeman of Dorchester in 1678, and then selectman in 1693, and Constable in 1694. He went with Rev. Joseph Lord and a few others to form the settlement of Dorchester, South Carolina. He was made a deacon of the Church of Christ that he and Peter O'Kelly founded in Dorchester, South Carolina.

Marriage 26th day of the 1st month 1667 Increase Sumner, son of William, married Sarah Staples by Captain Clap. [2][3]

In 1696 he moved to Dorchester, South Carolina, taking most of his children.
