Brief overview:
Inez (82), was severely beaten and raped when three attackers gained entry to her home in Lyttelton, Pretoria, on 4th November 2007, which resulted in being in a coma.
Her son Danie, who had been out to buy groceries, found his injured mother. He rushed her to Unitas Hospital where she died of head injuries two months later on 6th January 2008.

- At the beginning of May 2011, Judge Vivian Tlhapi imposed two life sentences on Maree's murderer and rapist, Monareng, of Tembisa. His co-accused, Lesley Makhosani Risimate, was discharged on all of the charges because of a lack of evidence against him. Judge Tlhapi said he was not implicated in the attack on Maree, except that he had assisted in selling stolen items.
