------------------------------------
Ingeborg was the youngest child of Ole Erickson Smesrud and Ingeborg Boe Smesrud. She was born in Nord Aurdal, Valdres, Norway on July 24, 1853. At age 16 she married Knudt Knudtson Stenseth in the Nord Aurdal Church. They had two sons Ole and Knudt.
In 1873 they sailed for the United States with the two boys to join the other members of the family who were already here. They settled in Martinsville where Knudt was a blacksmith and did some farming. While living here they had Anne Marie, who was to marry Evan Berg, [and] Oscar who died at the age of a few months.
When they were moving from one farm to another, Knudt became ill with pneumonia and died May 11, 1878 at the age of 32 years. Christine was born after her father's death. Knudt is buried in the Rock Church Cemetery in Livingston, Wis. beside his son Oscar.
After Ingeborg became a widow, she moved to Blanchardville, Wis. to be near her brother Erick. She supported herself by doing milliner work and sewing. She was also a good midwife.
On April 6, 1884 she married Olaus Thompson who had come from Norway a few years before. They went to live in Daleyville, Wisconsin. They had three daughters, Millie, Eda, and Julia
The children and the people they married are: Ole married Marie (Mollie) Chestelson, Knudt married Amanda Slutten (1st marriage) and Amanda Swenson (2nd marriage), Annie married Evan Berg, Christine married Henry Wagner, Millie (Mrs. Lewis Dakin), Eda (Mrs. Clarence Olson) and Julia (Mrs. Ellis Wills).
Ingeborg died during the flu epidemic on Oct. 18, 1918. For fear that the disease would spread, her funeral did not take place in the church but was from the home and directly to the cemetery. She died at the age of 65. Her husband Olaus died on March 6, 1939 at age 78. They are both buried in the Perry Lutheran Cemetery at Daleyville, Wisconsin -- from an unpublished paper by Joan Gehrke as copied by Stephen Sardeson
