Subject: [ANGELL] Re Angells of Michigan

Hi,
I have a polite request that the queries posted in this list include first
names whenever possible. It would make it much easier to discern whether
there is a connection. That said, I have some information that may be useful
to some of you.
Some of the Angells who descended from Thomas Angell of Rhode Island (b.1618
in England) settled in Clinton County, NY, and stayed there, while their
siblings and/or children made their way farther west, some into Chautauqua
County, NY, etc., and some into Michigan and elsewhere.
My line settled in Tallmadge Township, Ottawa Co., MI in 1835. GGGrandfather
Daniel Angell and friend Ira H. Maxfield traveled with their families from
New York to Ohio and left their families in Ohio while they went to take up
claims in Tallmadge Twp. in1833. Daniel then relocated his family there in
1835. Several of Daniel’s siblings also ended up there.
Briefly, my line goes like this:
Thomas Angell (b.England)
John (b. Providence, Rhode Island)
Daniel (b. Providence, Rhode Island)
Nedebiah/Nedabiah (b. Providence, Rhode Island)
Eseck (b. Providence, Rhode Island)
Eseck and his family migrated to Berkshire Co., Massachusetts - then
Pownal, Vermont - before finally settling in Clinton Co., New York.
Asa (b. Rhode Island)
Daniel (b. Clinton Co., New York) - (See above for Daniel’s migration)
Some of Daniel’s brothers and sisters also came ‘west’. The eldest,
Richard, ended up in Ohio, but at least one of his sons, George Ransom
Angell, went later to Ottawa Co., Michigan. Daniel’s brother Esek and family
relocated from Ohio to Tallmadge Twp., MI, in 1841. Lucinda (who married Ira
H. Maxfield) and Silas Tanner Angell also ended up in Ottawa Co., MI
(Tallmadge and Robinson townships), while Maria married Lincoln Piper and
ended up in Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI (not all that far from the rest of the
family).
Daniel and Olive Wheeler’s children were:
Edward A. (b. Clinton Co., New York)
Daniel Moore (b. Clinton Co., New York)
Matilda Sarah (b. Clinton Co., New York)
Seymour L (b. Clinton Co., New York).
Sophronia L. (b. Ottawa Co., Michigan)
Charlotte M. (b. Ottawa Co., Michigan)
Adelaide (my great grandmother) (b. Ottawa Co., Michigan)
There were also Angells in other parts of Michigan, Grand Haven and Spring
Lake, Allendale and Eastmanville in Ottawa County; Luther (don’t know that
county offhand); Grand Rapids and other parts of Kent County; around the
Detroit area, and elsewhere (the names are escaping me at the moment).
If your line travels from Thomas down to the first Daniel, you are also
related to Roger Williams, as this Daniel married Roger Williams’
grandaughter, Hannah Winsor.
Hope this helps someone. If anything connects, please contact me at my email
address, as well as through the list (to make sure I get it) as I have more
information which may be helpful.
