She died from a fever when she was about 3.
Her death was during one of the worst raining spells that had ever been remembered in E TX. She could not be buried for 5 days after. Three graves were dug, but they all filled with water before she could be buried.
Her dad Tom said he would rather pry up the floor boards then bury his little girl in all that mud. It is rumored that is just what he did. But the truth is they found some fairly dry ground to the side of the house in a Plum thicket.
They buried her there, and Susan planted a Cedar tree at the head of her daughter's grave
