About Irad Hawley
President of coal company for which Hawley PA is named http://hawleypa.net/History.html
" The town was named after Irad Hawley, a wealthy industrialist from New York City who was the founder of the Pennsylvania Coal Company. His mansion on 5th Avenue in New York City is now the home of the Salmagundi Club, America's oldest Artists Club and named by Washington Irving, who published his potpourri of wit and wisdom called "The Salmagundi Papers." Washington Irving was a frequent visitor to the region and was friends with Irad Hawley, as well as Phillip Hone, the first President of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company."
