Irvin B Gingrich

Irvin B. Gingrich, 97, of 552 W. Conestoga St., New Holland, died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 25, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Edna (Martin) Gingrich, in 2009. Born in May City, Iowa, he was the son of the late Elias and Rebecca (Bauman) Gingrich. He was a lifelong member of Goodville Mennonite Church where he faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and trustee for many years. He was employed by the former Penn Supreme Dairies and had a long career as a carpenter. He retired from Horst Construction at the age of 74. After his retirement, he used his carpentry skills to help family and friends. Irvin loved the Lord and his family and will be greatly missed by his family, including seven children: Mildred married to Charles Wert, Lititz; Lorraine married to Amos Hess, Witmer; Carl M. married to Ruth Ann (Eberly) Gingrich, New Holland; Kenneth M. married to Judy (Black) Gingrich, New Holland; Irvin, Jr. married to Marlene (Weaver) Gingrich, Leola; Lois A. Garman, Manheim; and Susan J. married to Nelson Martin, East Earl; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson and two sisters: Miriam married to Louis Hurst, Ephrata and Lovina married to David Martin, Myerstown. He was preceded in death by a great grandson Micah Berthold; and eight siblings: Elias Gingrich, Sidney Gingrich, Nancy Stauffer, Lucinda Burkholder, Leah Gingrich, Elsie Burkholder, Minerva Weaver and Rachel Weaver. His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 10 AM at Goodville Mennonite Church with Pastors Bruce Sauder and Nelson Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6 – 8 PM at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland and at the church on Thursday preceding the funeral from 9 – 10 AM.
