ID: I919

Name: Isaac DEHAVEN

RFN: 919

Change Date: 26 SEP 2006

Sex: M

Birth: 16 FEB 1749/1750 in Philadelphia County,, PA

(Ben notes: The date is in the old British style. This means not only is it Julian - about 11 days different from Gregorian in this century, but also the New Year was considered to have started on March 25, or Lady Day, each year, roughly coinciding with the start of spring. This changed to the current calendar with the Calendar Act of 1750, which imposed a shortened year in 1751, causing the official next calendar year to start on January 1, 1752. Also, Parliament declared that the day after September 2, 1752 would be for that year September 14. This is said to have stirred protests across the United Kingdom, but probably none quite as dramatic as depicted in the William Hogarth painting "Give us our Eleven Days". Dates in British Old Style between January 1 and March 25 typically are written like 1749/1750, meaning that officially it's 1749, but the rest of the world outside of the United Kingdom recognizes it as 1750. Where such a convention hasn't been used, it can be seen as something of a challenge to historians, making it easy to mis-date events that take place early in a given year.)

Hi Carolyn !

The Franklin Co. map just arrived and I will mail copies tomorrow.

Dont send me anything ($) except your intelligent input. Im sending $10 to the Bassett Library. You may wish to send a token gift ?

Now, the good news ! One Adam Ryherds land is shown to the n.n.e of Isaacs in Franklin Co., VA.

The original owner of Adam Ryherds land, James Standefer, (shown purchased in 1756) is shown as is Isaacs.

To the e.s.e., and probably bordering Isaacs property is the land of Robert Ellis and wife Sarah (now, Im even more convinced that she was Sarah Dehaven).

Robert purchased the 304 acres of land from Philemon Sutherland for £ 35 about 1790 (Philemon's date of purchase Feb. 1,1779). It is on the Grassy Creek of Bull Run and Jacks Creek. Deed book 3, pp 97-99 and "sold" this land to Mary Jones on April 6, 1796 for £ 35 (deed book 3, pp. 249-250. Mary Jones then sells this property to Isaac Dehaven on Nov. 4, 1806. Deed Book 5, pp. 298-299. Isaac Dehaven's will 15 April 1833 written and probated June 1833 Franklin Co., Va. Nancy was still living when Isaac died in 1833 in Franklin Co,Va.

You will note that the Salem Meeting House (Not Quaker) appears to be on Isaacs property. These properties lie some 10 miles n.n.e of Rocky Mount which is shown on most modern maps.

Father: Abraham DEHAVEN b: ABT 1715 in Philadelphia County,, PA

Mother: Rebecca PAWLING

Marriage 1 Nancy ELLIS b: EST 1749 in Caernarvon twp

Married: EST 1774 in Loudoun Co.,, VA

Note:

This marriage is based upon circumstantial evidence.

One William Jones and wife Mary from PA to Loudoun County, VA. in 1759.

In 1772 William Jones died. His Will names 2nd wife Mary*, sons James and Joshua together with daughter Mary Griffith.

The 1775 Loudoun tithtable shows Mrs. Mary Jones together with Robert Ellis, Jr. then age 17.

  • She is believed to have been the widowed (1766) wife of Robert Ellis, Sr. (and the mother of Robert Ellis, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann "Nancy" Ellis). She remarried Wm. Jones in Loudoun sometime after 1766.

For more evidence on the Jones, Dehaven, Ellis relationship see Wm. and Mary Jones and their sons, property sales etc.
