About Isaac Dennis

Isaac Dennis, a Vermont native and descendant of the Pilgrims, located at Dennis Corners in 1812 (Route 39 and Lake Hiram Road) and is believed to have been the first settler in the unbroken wilderness of that portion of the town. He was accompanied by or preceded by Ephraim Dennis, who maintained a tavern and store at the southwest corner. The family was large, the first generation having been buried on the David Anderson farm, while numerous children migrated into western states. They intermarried with the Elihu Daggett family that resided in Freedom and at the south end of Liberty Street. Source: History of Wyoming County, New York
