About Isaac Jacob Gardner (Starkovitch)
Isaac was a master tailor but was still a journeyman when my mother was born in 1911. Then they lived at 9 Varden Street, Stepney and later moved to Jubilee Street. When he first arrived in England he lived at 45 Havering Street with the Lazarus's. His brother Harry also stayed there before moving to the states.
His mother died when he was 3, his father appears in the voters list of 1903 aged 65.. His father died in 1904 whilst he was away at Yeshiva college in Riga. As there was no one to look after him, Uncle Maurice sent him a 1st class ticket to London.
