Biography

Isaac Sherwood, son of Thomas & Mary Sherwood. Isaac married Elizabeth Jackson, dau of John, perhaps by 21 July 1662. Of Rye in 1678. In 1687 bought land at Compo [Westport] where he was living in 1733. On 21 Aug 1727 Isaac conveyed to son Isaac Jr mentioning other sons David and John and reserving life use for himself and wife Elizabeth.[1]

Thomas died in hospital in Albany 5 Aug 1756. Isaac Sherwood, son of Thomas, born after his father age 10 immigrated in 1634. Isaac married Elizabeth Jackson, dau of John Jackson. Isaac received a grant of land from town of Eastchester, 1676, and was of Rye in 1678. In 1687 he bought land at Compo (now Westport), where he was living in 1733. He conveyed to his son Isaac, Jr. 21 Aug 1727, mentioning other sons, David and John, and reserving life use for himself and wife, Elizabeth.[2] Isaac was given a house and land next to Steven in Fairfield. Sep 2 1676 called son in law to John Jackson on the town minutes of Eastchester, N.Y.

IT IS POSSIBLE ISAAC AND HIS DAUGHTER ABIGAIL ALSO ACQUIRED SOME OF THEIR LAND BY AWARD THROUGH THE COMMISSION WHICH SOLD LANDS CONFISCATED BY LOYALISTS AFTER THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR, THEY QRE LISTED ABIGAIL SHERWOOD ON 22 DEC 1785 ON PAGE 82 AND ISAAC SHERWOOD ON 18 MAY 1786 0N PAGE 32 SOURCE ONE WORLD TREE , THE MILLENNIIUM FILE., FAMILY DATE COLLECTION- INDIVIDUAL RECORDS WESTCHESTER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY " COMMISSION OF FORFEITURE,1784-1786.
